Fatal Road Crash Claims One Life in Ogun State

A fatal road accident occurred on Saturday along Ayedere village in the Obada area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, resulting in one casualty.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed the incident in a statement.

According to Akinbiyi, the accident involved three individuals, with two sustaining injuries. He attributed the cause of the accident to speeding, which led to the vehicle losing control and flipping over to the opposite side of the highway due to the slippery road conditions.

The impact of the crash resulted in the death of one occupant of the Volkswagen bus bearing plate number APP 77 YD, while two others sustained injuries.

He said, “According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Volkswagen Bus was driving outward from Abeokuta to Ifo at excessive speed in the rain before losing control of the vehicle.

“The vehicle thereafter somersaulted and tumbled into the inward lane (for those driving inward Abeokuta). Fortunately, no vehicle was driving inward Abeokuta at the time which could have been more catastrophic.”

Akinbiyi added that the injured persons and the dead victims were taken to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta for medical attention and depositing of the dead body.

“However, out of the three occupants in the vehicle, only one lost his life by the time they were rescued at Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, for medical attention, but the remaining two were injured including the driver.

“While TRACE commiserates with the family of the deceased, motorists are again warned against excessive speed especially now that the rains are here given its attendant consequences,” he added.
