The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Sadiq Zubairu, in connection with the tragic death of Bello Bukar Adam, a staff member of the Kano State Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
Bello was reported missing by his family after he left home on Sunday, May 5, 2024, and did not return. His body was later discovered in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
According to Bello’s younger brother, Abdullahi Abubakar, Bello received an urgent call from the suspect, Sadiq, who was a trusted friend and former colleague.
The Kano State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, May 9, revealing that Sadiq deceitfully collected N3 million from late Bello under the pretext of securing a better job offer for him.
According to the PPRO, Sadiq confessed to having no means of repaying the money and subsequently conspired with two individuals to commit the heinous act.
The statement read: “On May 5, 2024, around 10:00 a.m., a report was received regarding the disappearance of Bello Bukar Adam, a KEDCO staff, aged 45, from Zawaciki Quarters in Kumbotso LGA, Kano State. Later that day, the body of a deceased adult male was found abandoned at the outskirts of Eastern Bypass, around Bechi Village in Kumbotso LGA,” read the statement.
“In response, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc, directed a team of detectives to track and arrest the suspect within 24 hours.
“Sadiq Zubairu, 35, of Hotoron Arewa Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, was apprehended on May 6, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. During preliminary investigations, Sadiq confessed to luring Bello to his house under false pretences, where he was assaulted until he became unconscious. His body was then disposed of alongside his vehicle.”
“While commiserating with the deceased’s family, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents in Kano State,” the statement concluded.
