Jimoh Ibrahim Urges Tinubu: Sack Corrupt Cabinet Members

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South and a prominent figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress, has voiced his concern over allegations of corruption against certain ministers. During an appearance on the Channels TV program, Politics Today, on Wednesday night, Ibrahim urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action by disbanding the current cabinet and removing specific ministers.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the performance of the current cabinet members, Ibrahim emphasized the need for individuals with greater expertise and integrity to address the nation’s pressing economic challenges. He remarked that the current cabinet falls short of the high standards required to steer the country effectively, particularly evident during the year following the President’s inauguration.

Ibrahim’s call for a cabinet overhaul coincides with his ongoing criticism of the primary election process leading up to the gubernatorial election in Ondo State. He reiterated his stance that the primary election was marred by irregularities, prompting his legal efforts to nullify the results.

In support of his position, Ibrahim highlighted the importance of ensuring that ministers accused of corruption are removed from office, cautioning President Tinubu about the potential consequences of retaining such individuals within the government. He stressed the need to alleviate the burden of corruption allegations on the administration for the betterment of the country.

Drawing attention to the structural shortcomings within the administration, Ibrahim argued that President Tinubu’s commendable strategies are hindered by an inefficient system. He questioned the capacity of the current system to effectively implement the proposed strategies, underscoring the urgency for structural reforms to align with the administration’s objectives.

Nigeria grapples with multifaceted socio-economic challenges exacerbated by recent policy decisions, including the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange windows. Against this backdrop, Ibrahim’s call for accountability within the government resonates with the broader imperative for effective governance and economic stability.

President Tinubu had previously issued a stern warning to ministers, emphasizing the importance of performance and accountability. He reiterated his commitment to periodic evaluations and emphasized that underperforming ministers would face dismissal.

As President Tinubu awaits a report on the performance of federal ministries, departments, and agencies for the first quarter of 2024, Ibrahim’s advocacy for governance reform underscores the ongoing dialogue surrounding accountability and effectiveness within the administration.
