The Nigeria Police Force has initiated the orderly room trial of four of its personnel who kidnapped a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Kwara State.
The corps member recounted his traumatic experience on social media, stating that the police abducted him and compelled him to withdraw an amount of money under duress for them in Ajase town of Kwara State.
He explained that the policemen took him to an unknown location after the abduction, passing through several thickly uncultivated areas.
“No one could hear my cries. They instructed me to open all my bank accounts and withdraw a certain amount of money,” the user posted on social media.
After seizing his belongings, the officers took him back to a nearby town and confiscated his phones and suitcase. He further revealed that they directed him to locate point-of-sale operators to withdraw the money.
When he found two operators, he noted down their account numbers, rode a motorbike to where the police were and transferred the money to the accounts.
“I then took the same bike back to the shops to collect the money after they confirmed the transfer,” the corps member said.
“After that, I submitted it to the so-called police officers. One of them said, ‘Don’t you know that’s how we do it in Ilorin?’”
“The same police officers drove me to the main express, dropped me, parked a few metres from me and watched me until I entered another bus to my initial destination.
“What was my offense? They said they didn’t believe I’m a corps member because I was not with my NYSC identity card. I told them I would open the NYSC portal, but they said they wanted only physical documents.”
This has been sent to kwara for necessary action. @PoliceNG_CRU, @Kwara_PPRO to take up this case immediately. Contact the complainant and investigate. Thanks. https://t.co/7sx4d7jyWf
