Nigerian govt pledges restoration of electricity in eight Sokoto LGAs

The Nigerian federal government has committed to reinstating electricity supply to eight local government areas in Sokoto State, which have been without power for approximately ten years.

This pledge was made by the Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, following discussions initiated by Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu during an official visit.

Subsequently, a team from the Ministry of Power was dispatched to assess the affected areas and facilitate the restoration of electricity.

Mustafa Baba Umarah, the Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, emphasized during the assessment in Sokoto that the government would thoroughly examine the underlying issues causing the blackout and take appropriate action.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing electricity access to all citizens, regardless of their location. Sanusi Dan Fulani, the state’s Commissioner for Energy, highlighted the importance of restoring electricity to foster economic growth, particularly in rural areas.

He emphasized the significance of electricity in the eastern zone, known as the state’s “food basket,” for societal development. Fulani also appealed for cooperation from the affected communities to ensure the success of the restoration project.

He explained, “The eight local government areas earmarked for reconnection to the national grid are Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Gada, Illela and Gwadabawa.”
