Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has refuted circulating reports claiming that his administration has borrowed N10 billion from foreign entities.
Earlier reports suggested that the governor had obtained loans totalling N10,022,382,348.40 billion from various foreign bodies and organizations in 2023.
In response, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement on Monday to debunk the claims, asserting that his administration has not borrowed any funds since its inception.
The governor dismissed the report as false, emphasizing that he has not taken any loans either through the State Executive Council or the State House of Assembly.
He clarified that the funds mentioned in the report were part of World Bank Development financing inherited from previous administrations.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that all state projects, including road dualization, construction of overhead bridges, school and health centre upgrades, and various road projects, are financed through special project accounts established by the state government.
“No responsible government will abandon a series of World Bank projects which are already household names across the Federation and which have benefited so many residents.
“We reaffirm again that Governor Adeleke has not borrowed a kobo since assuming office. Inherited liabilities and contracts cannot be tagged on the Governor of the Year on Infrastructure”, the statement added.
