Dele Momodu Unveils Cause of Wike, Fubara Conflict

Dele Momodu, a seasoned journalist, has provided insight into the ongoing feud between Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Momodu suggested that the root of the political conflict between Wike and Fubara lies in the battle for control over the treasury of Rivers State. This revelation came during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today program on Thursday night.

The animosity between Fubara and Wike has persisted since the governor assumed office on May 29, 2023, affecting various levels of government, including the state House of Assembly, local government chairpersons, and certain state commissioners aligned with each faction.

Although President Bola Tinubu intervened in the dispute and brokered a peace agreement, tensions have persisted between the opposing parties and their supporters.

Momodu emphasized that the conflict in Rivers State is primarily driven by political considerations and the desire to control the state’s financial resources.

“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him also to get hold of the state to not only give them votes, but a structure of money, structure of having direct access to the treasury Rivers State plays an important role in the election in Nigeria.”
