Benue State Governor Unveils Plans for Local Security Force Amidst Rising Security Concerns

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, announced that the state government plans to establish its own local security outfit before the end of May, 2024.

The governor, who stated this on Tuesday during the APC (All Progressives Congress),  stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, said the move was aimed at complementing the efforts of other security agencies in tackling security challenges bedeviling the state.

Governor Alia revealed that his administration is already working towards procuring Hilux vans and motorcycles that would enable the security outfit to access the nooks and crannies of the state.

The Governor lauded the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies in securing the country, particularly Benue state.

According to him, the launching of the State-owned security outfit will aid in securing Benue communities to enable farmers return to their various farm lands.

It was reported that the state has over the years, recorded a series of attacks by suspected Fulani herders.

The state has faced numerous attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani herders, resulting in the displacement of approximately three million residents who have sought refuge in IDP camps.
