The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector.
Dr. Ndiame Diop, the newly appointed Country Director of the World Bank, made this pledge during a visit to Prof. Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, in Abuja on Monday.
Diop expressed readiness for enhanced collaboration with the ministry to ensure the success of water-related policies and programs in Nigeria.
In response, the minister emphasized the need for increased funding to bolster food security nationwide. Utsev highlighted the importance of investing in food security to create employment opportunities and reduce criminal activities among the population.
He underscored the importance of a strong partnership between the World Bank and the ministry to effectively pursue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the implementation of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation Project for Nigeria (SPIN).
Utsev commended the outgoing Country Director of the World Bank, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, for his commendable service and wished him success in his future endeavours. He also pledged support to the incoming director, Mr. Diop, for a productive tenure ahead.
