Gunman kills 6 worshippers at Afghan mosque

At least six civilians lost their lives, and one person sustained injuries in a shooting incident targeting a mosque in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat on Monday evening.

As per a statement by Abdul Mateen Qani, the Interior Ministry spokesman, an unidentified assailant opened fire on worshippers inside the mosque situated in the Guzara district.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly denounced the attack, emphasizing the need for immediate investigations to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault thus far.

Although there has been a significant decrease in attacks since the Taliban regained power in August 2021, so-called Islamic State factions are still active in the country and occasionally claim responsibility for attacks.
