Ajayi defeated six other aspirants to emerge as the candidate of the party, qualifying him for the certificate of return given to him by the national secretariat of the party.

In a statement by the convener of the PDP Crusader, Hon Mayokun Akinmoladun said all the aspirants who participated in the primaries were happy because the exercises were free, fair, and credible.

Akinmoladun said the primary was also conducted in a conductive environment and everybody applauded the effectiveness of the state working committee for conducting a peaceful primary election.

The PDP chieftain compared the primary election with the one conducted by APC where cutlasses, guns, and other dangerous weapons were freely used during the primary.

His words ‘The difference is clear. Even the people of Ondo State were able to see the party that was ready to govern the state. Now, a popular candidate has emerged through a transparent primary election, not the one that emerged through thuggery or other violent means.

“The success of the free, fair, and credible Primary conducted by our party on the 25th of April, 2024 underscores the entrenchment of high democratic values in our Party. Congratulations to Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi, our flag bearer, the electoral committee headed by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, our six other aspirants, and the entire PDP family for a wonderful carnival of democracy.

Akinmoladun urged all PDP members to remain united and focus on how to take over the reign of government from the present occupant in Alagbaka.

According to him, the people of the state are tired of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government and they are ready to vote them out, saying this was evident in the way people have been jubilating since the emergence of Ajayi whom people know and respected for being a grassroots politician.

Akinmoladun said the 18 local government areas of the state are ready to mobilise for the election of the PDP. He said all members that cut across the local governments of the state are ready to work with the state working committee to achieve success for the party in the forthcoming governorship election.
