Aiyedatiwa to receive APC certificate of return today

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the victor of the Ondo governorship primary election under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will be officially awarded his certificate of return on Monday.

Nze Duru, the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, confirmed this information on Sunday. “Yes, the presentation of the certificate to Governor Aiyedatiwa will take place tomorrow (Monday) at the national secretariat in Abuja,” he informed our reporter.

While Duru did not specify the timing in relation to the National Working Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, where this presentation might occur, he assured of its occurrence.

This development follows three days after APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, urged disgruntled aspirants from the primary election to support the governor, fostering unity ahead of the November 16 governorship poll.

Aiyedatiwa emerged as the winner according to the Primary Election Committee led by Governor Usman Ododo, following a poll conducted across all 18 local government areas of the state. However, the outcome faced challenges over allegations of irregularities and violence in certain polling units.

Consequently, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim representing Ondo South Senatorial District, along with five other aspirants including Olusola Oke, Folakemi Omogoroye, Olugbenga Edema, Jimi Odimayo, and Wale Akinterinwa, submitted petitions contesting Aiyedatiwa’s victory. They called for the cancellation of the primary and the organization of a fresh one.
