The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended 16 notorious cult members and issued warrants for the arrest of 21 others. In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in Awka on Saturday, this accomplishment follows heightened efforts to quell the resurgence of cult-related violence in Awka, the capital city.
Ikenga elaborated that the Police Command successfully apprehended at least 16 infamous cultists responsible for numerous acts of violence in Anambra. Additionally, he highlighted that 21 other individuals, identified as cultists, are currently evading arrest and have been declared as wanted by the State Police Command.
The arrested cult members, captured through a series of intelligence-driven operations, have been detained under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye. CP Adeoye has instructed the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) to intensify efforts and pursue those still at large among the identified cultists.
Furthermore, the Commissioner urged community and religious leaders to denounce the scourge of cultism within society.
