Enugu: Pregnant woman gives birth in kidnappers’ den

A pregnant woman en route to the hospital for delivery was reportedly abducted and subsequently gave birth at the captors’ hideout in Egede, Udi local government area of Enugu State.

The distressing incident, said to have occurred last Monday, witnessed the woman delivering a healthy baby boy within the confines of the forest.

Identified as Chinwendu Igwe, the woman was accompanied by her two young children, aged between two and four years, at the time of the abduction.

Her husband, Mr. Ekene Igwe, confirmed the harrowing ordeal to reporters, revealing that he paid a ransom of N1.6 million to secure the release of his wife and newborn from the forest in Egede, where the kidnappers instructed him to deposit the ransom.

Igwe expressed gratitude to a compassionate motorcyclist who rescued his two children, abandoned on the roadside by the kidnappers.

“I paid a ransom of N1.6 million before I could get my wife and the new born baby,” he said.

Igwe who hails from Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu Awkunanaw said he was grateful to God for getting them back.
