The Zamfara North Progressive Movement has voiced deep concern over the escalating incidents of armed banditry, senseless killings, and kidnappings for ransom within the state.
The group is urging the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Police Command to expedite the investigation and prosecution of suspects. They believe swift action is essential to deter others from perpetrating such atrocious crimes against humanity.
This call comes from Ahmed Abubakar Birane, Chairman of the Zamfara North Progressive Movement, in a statement issued.
The group particularly highlights their distress regarding the delay in investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in the abduction of District Head Ibrahim Sarkin Fada Kasuwar Daji by armed bandits. It’s noted that the district head endured over six months in captivity until his release, reportedly secured through ransom payment by his son, a former State House of Assembly member, Anas Ibrahim S/Fada.
Reports suggest that the police initiated investigations following the arrest of an armed bandit. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly implicated certain individuals in recurring attacks, kidnappings, killings, and cattle rustling in Kaura town and its surroundings.
Further incidents of attacks were reported in Kasuwar Daji town, where the State Financial Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were abducted by bandits, enduring months in captivity until their release upon ransom payment to Dansadiya.
“We call on Police authorities not to spare anybody found wanting in the course of investigation no matter how highly placed.
“We demand the revocation of the bail granted to the member State House of Assembly until investigation is completed.
“Banditry and kidnapping are serious offences. It is inappropriate to release anybody allegedly involved in kidnapping because of his political affiliation.
“We also appeal to Governor Dauda Lawal and the Inspector General of Police to wade into the matter and ensure that the perpetrators of this crime should face the full weight of the law.
“The good people of Zamfara State want peace and security to enable them to continue their lawful business.
“As a progressive movement, we demand justice and safety of citizens in Zamfara State. We support the government and security agents in the fight against banditry, insurgency, terrorism and kidnapping for ransom or politics.”
