During the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat in Asaba, Delta State’s capital, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army, disclosed that some of the arms and ammunition belonging to the 17 soldiers who were killed in Okuama community, Oghelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, have been retrieved.
The tragic incident occurred on March 14 when youths from the Okuama community attacked the soldiers who were on a peacekeeping mission, resulting in the loss of 17 lives.
However, General Ugbo emphasized that efforts to recover all the missing ammunition and apprehend the culprits are still underway.
He said: “Arrests will be continually made; this is an issue under investigation, but l am telling you that our equipment, our arms and ammunition, we are still searching for them. We have got some, we have not got others, the search is continuing.”
Ugbo assured that the detained Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo, is still under investigation.
Questions had been raised over the safety of the traditional ruler who turned him into the Army instead of the police.
However, Ugbo assured of Ikolo’s safety.
He added: “The traditional ruler, l believe, is safe. They are still questioning him; he is still under investigation.
“Every other issue around Okuama is still under investigation and l assure you that at the end of the investigation, whatever will unfold will be brought to the fore.
“Everyone will be informed on the outcome of the investigation.”
