Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation in Nigeria, has put forth his perspective on the motivations behind Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.
According to him, Russia has shown relative restraint in its actions against Ukraine, suggesting that if not for this restraint, Ukraine would have faced severe devastation. He draws a comparison with Israel’s approach to warfare in Gaza, implying that Russia’s actions have been comparatively restrained.
Furthermore, Fani-Kayode posits that NATO’s actions may have played a role in provoking the conflict in Ukraine. He also expresses a broader concern about the influence of Western powers, stating that Africa and Nigeria are undergoing a form of modern slavery at the hands of these powers.
”Russians were provoked into doing what they’re doing in Ukraine. Russia is doing it in a mild way.
“They would have crushed the whole of Ukraine overnight but they try to be limited and restrained,” he said in an interview with Arise TV on Sunday.
“It would have been a hundred times worse if they were doing a Gaza on them. It would have been much worse but thank God they’re not doing that.”
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War which commenced in 2014.
This invasion stands as the most substantial assault on a European nation since the conclusion of World War II. It is believed to have resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties in Ukraine, along with hundreds of thousands of military casualties.
