Taraba State police authorities have confirmed a tragic incident in Didango Geita village of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, where an explosion from a dane gun resulted in the deaths of three children and injuries to four others.
The state Commissioner of Police, David Iloyonomon, clarified that contrary to earlier speculation of an improvised explosive device (IED), the explosion occurred while children were playing with a dane gun on a tree. The gunpowder detonated, causing the tragic deaths and injuries.
According to Iloyonomon, the explosion was not caused by an assailant but rather suspected to be an accidental discharge during play. Upon investigation, the anti-bomb unit of the Nigeria Police Force found no evidence of dynamite or IED at the scene.
