Slain 17 soldiers: Surrendered monarch flown to Abuja for quizzing

The Nigerian Army has reportedly flown HRM Clement Ikolo, the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom in Delta State, to Abuja for further questioning.

Ikolo is among the eight individuals declared wanted by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in connection with the killing of 17 military personnel in Delta State on March 14, 2024.

Ikolo surrendered himself to the police in Asaba on Thursday, shortly after. Before turning himself in, he expressed his shock and disbelief at being listed among the wanted persons.

He maintained his innocence, stating that he had no involvement in any activities that endangered human lives.

The monarch, who received his staff of office on November 16, 2023, reported to the state police command headquarters on Thursday evening to present himself to Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda.

Subsequently, on Friday morning, he was handed over to the military authorities.

Accompanied by senior military officers, including the Commanding Officer of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Asaba, as well as the Delta State Police Commissioner, Ikolo was escorted to the Asaba International Airport.

He boarded an Air Peace airline bound for Abuja, departing from Asaba Airport at approximately 9:10 am.
