[BREAKING] Two Nasarawa varsity students die while collecting palliatives

Two tragic deaths occurred as chaos erupted during the distribution of palliatives at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The incident unfolded at the university’s convocation square, where the state government had organized the distribution.

According to a source within the university, the stampede resulted in the deaths of two female students, with others sustaining various injuries. The overcrowding led to suffocation, ultimately claiming the lives of these students.

Yunusa Baduku, the National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, confirmed the grim situation, stating that many students had been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

He described the scene as students overwhelmed security measures, forcibly entering the convocation square where the palliatives were being distributed.

Baduku further revealed the extent of the tragedy, indicating that one student had lost their life, while numerous others were receiving treatment for injuries, some at the school’s clinic and others at the Federal Medical Center in Keffi.

Despite the distressing turn of events, Baduku expressed gratitude towards the university’s management, student leaders, and representatives of the state government for their swift response in providing medical assistance to the affected students.

The distribution of palliatives by the state government to tertiary institutions had been a recent initiative, with Governor Abdullahi Sule overseeing the provision of rice and financial support to students across various educational institutions in the state.
