Budget padding: CSO urges Senate to reinstate Senator Ningi

A civil society organization in Kebbi State, Kebbi State Association For Peace and Good Governance, has called on the  senate to immediately recall Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi State and the former chairman northern senator’s forum.

The organization’s General secretary, comrade Usman Muhammed Anache said that, the senator’s suspension over allegations of 3.7trn budget padding was hasty, irrational and a flagrant abuse of his fundamental human rights not only as senator but as a Nigerian who constitutionally enjoys freedom of speech.

He argued that, recent investigations have vindicated him as confirmed by the sitting minister of budget and economic planning, Senator Bagudu who was all over the media claiming that law makers are at liberty to insert money into the budget, but even at that he maintained that law makers are not permitted to insert money of such magnitude without portfolio.

The group added that, the law makers earlier described the budget submitted to them as empty before it was later returned to the senate for consideration and ratification, therefore since the entire budget emanated from office of budget minister Bagudu he should be investigated for the fall out and give details on how 3.7trm without portfolio found their way into the budget ” we are calling on president Tinubu and the authorities concerned to invite Bagudu for questioning and immediately reinstate senator Ningi.

In  a similar development, the organisation while consoling Nigerian army for the gruesome murder of 16 of their personnel including military top brass cautioned the senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio on his recent claim that foreign mercenaries may have been behind the murder of  the soldiers saying as the number three citizen in Nigeria he should do well to verify his fact before going to the press, they recalled how he claimed 30bn were given to state governors to share as palliatives to Nigerians.

On reprisal attack following the killing of the soldiers in Delta State, the group stated that it has taken side with Senator Muhammadu Aliero who called for through investigations into the ugly massacre of the Nigerian army and as well urged them to refrain from reprisal attack they should instead give peace a chance by allowing for holistic investigation.
