The late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, will be laid to rest today, Friday, March 15, 2024, at his Aliiwo ancestral home in Ibadan, Oyo State. The burial ceremony will be according to Islamic rites, with the interment scheduled for 4pm.
The announcement of the burial arrangements was made by the monarch’s younger brother, Kola Balogun, who serves as the Baba-Kekere Olubadan.
According to a statement from the deceased’s Personal Assistant (Media), Oladele Ogunsola, the late Oba Balogun passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 81 after a brief illness at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
The late Olubadan, a distinguished figure, held various esteemed positions throughout his lifetime, including being a British-trained Ph.D. holder, former university lecturer, member of the management staff of Shell British Petroleum, governorship candidate of the defunct Nigeria People’s Party, former Senator, and a successful businessman.
His recent official engagement was presiding over the Olubadan Advisory Council meeting last Saturday, where decisions regarding Ibadan Zone’s position in the proposed reconstituted Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs were deliberated upon.
The late monarch’s passing has left behind a grieving family, including wives, children, and grandchildren. As the community mourns his loss, preparations are underway for his final rites, honoring his legacy and contributions to Ibadanland and beyond.
