Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State convened the inaugural sessions of the newly established governing councils for the state’s tertiary institutions, namely Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, and Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, held at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
During the inauguration, Governor Fubara tasked the council members with revising the curriculum to rectify deficiencies in the educational system, aiming to improve the acquisition and application of practical skills.
Additionally, the governor greenlit the resumption of employment processes at Ignatius Ajuru University, which had been previously suspended. He emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity throughout the employment procedures.
Governor Fubara underscored that all employment decisions must be strictly merit-based, adhering to the initial approval of 869 staff and following the allocated percentages for both academic and non-academic positions.
