Reforms in communication sector strategic to nation’s operational efficiency – Lawmaker Agbese

Phillip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, emphasized that ongoing reforms in the communication sector are poised to enhance operational efficiency across all segments of the economy.

Agbese highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s steadfast commitment to reforms not only within the communication sector but also across various government agencies. He asserted that Tinubu’s approach is crucial for navigating the economic and social challenges, with anticipated positive outcomes expected to materialize in the coming months.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the lawmaker underscored significant developments unfolding in the country’s communication sector, echoing similar advancements in other sectors. He assured that legislative support would be provided as necessary to bolster these reforms.

Agbese noted that members of the lower legislative chamber overseeing these functions have observed proactive measures taken by the new leadership of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to revitalize the regulatory agency following their appointment.

He said: “The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, hit the ground running with plans and programmes geared towards maximizing the opportunities in the communications sector for sustainable growth and development.”

“The missing link in the development circle in Nigeria is leadership. Purposeful leaders can create a lasting legacy. They can make a difference that will be felt for generations. I am glad that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu displayed this attribute when choosing persons occupying positions of authority in the country.”

According to the lawmaker, notable gains of “not the business as usual” were beginning to be felt at the NCC, adding that there was some level of professionalism, passion, and dedication to the conduct of government business in the agency lately.

He added: “Dr Aminu Maida has displayed leadership. Under him, the communication sector in Nigeria has experienced a leap in productivity. This indicates his quality of thought and commitment to bringing his expertise to bear on the task of re-positioning

“These reforms are positioned to accelerate the diversification of the Nigerian economy by enhancing productivity in critical sectors. Communication is the economy’s engine for change and gateway to new resources and opportunities. It connects key economic players, promotes dialogue, and informs their policies.”

Agbese urged Nigerians to support reforms which he believed would yield results at the appropriate time.
