Team Nigeria has continued to perform exceptionally well at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, and has consolidated on its second position behind Egypt with 54 medals.
The team has won 22 gold, 13 silver and 19 bronze medals, and is still adding to its tally.
On Wednesday, the weightlifters won six more medals, with Desmond Akano and Adebayo Adeyemi winning three silver and three bronze medals.
Desmond Akano, who competed in the -96kg category, snatched 145kg and recorded 191kg in clean and jerk, with a total of 336kg, winning a silver and two bronze medals.
Adebayo Adeyemi, who competed in the 106kg category and is following in his father’s footsteps, won two silver and a bronze medal, even though he was injured during the competition.
He snatched 151kg, recorded 190kg in clean and jerk and had a total of 241.
Their performances have raised Nigeria’s Weightlifting medal tally to 26, consisting of 15 gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
In other events, the Nigeria Female cricket team secured a bronze medal by defeating Uganda in their Nigeria will be participating in more events on Thursday at various centres in Ghana.
