Unknown assailants reportedly took the life of Mr. Danjuma Emokpaire, a farmer, on his farm in Edo State. The tragic incident occurred on Friday in Ubune-Ivbiaro community, situated in the Owan-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The unfortunate attack took place as Mr. Emokpaire was leaving his farm to return home after completing his day’s work. Concerns arose within the community when the farmer was not found at home on Saturday morning, prompting a search for the missing individual.
“So, we have to mobilize to the farm to search for him but unfortunately,
We found him dead.
“From what we saw around the scene in the bush, he was killed while on a motorcycle as there was no sign of confrontation between him and his assailants,” the source said.
He went on to mention that the motorcycle sustained damage during the attack, and the farmer’s mobile phone was forcibly taken.
Abdul Saliu Emokpaire, a member of the community’s vigilante group, stated that the deceased’s body had been brought home for burial following Islamic rites. Expressing concern, he appealed to both security agencies and the Edo State Government to intervene, emphasizing that residents were hesitant to go to their farms due to the fear of attacks by herdsmen.
He reported that the incident had already been brought to the attention of the Afuze Divisional Police.
A senior police officer from the Afuze Divisional Police Headquarters, speaking anonymously as he lacked authorization, confirmed the occurrence. He mentioned that police personnel had been dispatched to the community and had visited the crime scene.
In response to inquiries, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, stated that he had not received information on the incident at the time of contact.
