Just In: Edo Assembly serves Gov Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shaibu impeachment notice

The Edo State House of Assembly has issued an impeachment notice to Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

This move is believed to be linked to his conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which resulted in his defeat in the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial election primaries in the state.

Shaibu had previously raised concerns about a purported plan to impeach him, attributing it to his gubernatorial aspirations.

He secured his candidacy through a separate primary election held at his residence in Benin City. Additionally, Asue Ighodalo emerged as the victor in another PDP primary held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The embattled deputy governor had said: “Even as we speak, my team has been calling me that, ‘Look at what these people are doing’.

“They are saying they are going to impeach you, that you have gotten too far.’ They are threatening to impeach me.”
