BRT Driver flees after hitting mother, 2 sons in Lagos

A 35-year-old mother named Rofiat and her two sons are said to have been run over by a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver named Sunday Bukola over the weekend in the Palmgroove neighbourhood of Lagos.

After the incident, a vengeful mob had assembled nearby, and the driver turned to heel to avoid being lynched.

Currently receiving care at an unidentified Lagos hospital’s intensive care unit are both Rofiat and Basit.

The victims were struck by an unregistered BRT bus, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, who verified the occurrence.

Hundeyin said aid preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were crossing the BRT lane at Palmgroove inward Onipanu when the incident occurred.

He said, “35-year-old Rofiat and her two sons, Malik, 5, and Basit, 2, were crossing the BRT lane. Unfortunately, Malik died on the spot, but Rofiat and Basit were rushed to the hospital.

“The corpse of Malik has been deposited at the mortuary. The driver was later arrested and he is now in police custody.”
