Security guards arraigned for allegedly stealing property worth N685,000

Two individuals, Gabriel Godwin and John Julius, were presented before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges of stealing property valued at N685,000 from a residence.

The defendants, without fixed residential addresses, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges of break-in and stealing.

The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, disclosed that the defendants, along with two others who are at large, committed the offences on February 16 at No. 3, Doka Street, Narayi, Kaduna.

Leo outlined that the defendants and their accomplices unlawfully entered the complainant, Mr Aaron Okoro’s house, stealing clothes valued at N240,000, jewellery worth N195,000, and two TV sets valued at N250,000. Additionally, they damaged the complainant’s door, estimated at N50,000 in their attempt to gain entry.

The offences contravene the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted bail to the defendants at N100,000 each, along with two sureties each in the same amount. The sureties must be civil servants on salary Grade Level 09 and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The case is adjourned until March 18 for a hearing.
