Yobe State University assures parents of students’ well-being after fire outbreak

In the aftermath of a recent fire incident at the new female hostel of Yobe State University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura, has provided reassurance to parents and guardians regarding the safety and well-being of their wards at the university.

Professor Daura conveyed this message while addressing journalists on Friday, updating them on the university’s status following the blaze that engulfed the entire new female hostel, where approximately 195 students resided.

He assured that the university management, through its dedicated committee, is extending all necessary support to the students who were affected by the unfortunate incident.

The Professor praised the transparency of the committee, emphasizing its consistent communication with the Vice Chancellor’s office, providing daily updates on the situation and the students impacted by the disaster.

“The place where the students are residing now cannot be permanent accommodations, we are looking forward to permanent accommodations for them.

“We have a building that has not been completed, so we went and made a survey and proposal to the state government to complete the construction of that building,” Daura said.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university has received support from various entities, including government, non-governmental organizations, investment companies, ministries, the state Assembly, the National Assembly, corporate organizations, and individuals.

He mentioned that the university management has provided over one thousand pieces of notebooks and writing materials to the affected students.

The management is also providing condiments and ingredients for cooking food three times a day, while the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has provided the foodstuffs.

Daura expressed gratitude to the state fire service, security personnel, and members of the communities for their assistance and support during and after the incident.
