Vandalism in FCT over soon – NSCDC assures

The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has reassured residents that the issue of vandalizing critical national assets and infrastructure in the territory will soon come to an end.

Odumosu provided this assurance during a visit to the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, on Friday in Abuja.

He pledged that the Command would persist in its efforts against criminal elements in the FCT, with a particular focus on vandals who deprive citizens of the benefits of democracy.

Emphasizing the commitment to the cause, Odumosu stated that the eradication of vandalism and theft of public property, including manhole covers, street lights, traffic lights, roads, bridges, and water dams, is a priority in the FCT. He highlighted the successes already achieved in the fight against vandals since assuming duty.

“Several arrests have been made within the city centre, and some of the suspects charged to court.

“The war is not yet won but we are determined to double our efforts until we bring an end to vandalism in the FCT,” Odumosu said.

He stated he was dedicated to keying into the NSCDC safe school programme of ensuring adequate protection of schools across the territory.

He, therefore, sought the support of the Chairman for the corps to achieve optimum performance and effective delivery of its mandate as enshrined in its Act.

On his part, the AMAC Chairman assured the commandant of his continuous support in ensuring the mandates of the Corps were achieved in the FCT.

According to him, the NSCDC has proved its capacity to work effectively as an independent body and in collaboration with sister agencies.
