The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, announced that it has discovered a hidden oil reservoir containing approximately one million litres of crude oil. The Garrison Commander of the Division and Sector 3 Commander of Operation Niger Delta Safe, OPDS, Brigadier General EU Effiong, revealed that the reservoir was found at Odagwa Etche in the Etche local government area of Rivers.
According to the commander, the military had previously raided the community. As a result, the suspects had relocated and established another site. However, the military discovered about eight reservoirs and five cooking pots containing one million litres of crude oil that the suspects were about to boil.
The commander emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to flushing out illegal oil operators. He stated, “This raid is in continuation of our fight against illegal oil bunkering. We received intelligence that the suspects had relocated to this part of the forest after our earlier raid in this community.”
He went on to say, “We would continue to do our best for our country; therefore, we cannot stop carrying out this function. I advise those involved in oil theft to reconsider their future and the general public. Despite the financial gains from bunkering, it has negative consequences.”
