Pay 4 months withheld salaries -SSANU tells Nigerian Govt

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has urgently appealed to the Federal Government to release the four months’ withheld salaries of its members.

SSANU Chairman at Federal University Lokoja, Adedeji Suarau, informed the press on Thursday in Lokoja that the government is yet to disburse the salaries for May, June, July, and August 2022.

Suarau acknowledged that the government had recently settled the withheld salaries of university lecturers and stressed that it would be equitable for SSANU members to receive similar treatment.

The Federal Government had withheld the salaries of SSANU members for four months due to their involvement in a strike in 2022. Despite various attempts, the salaries remained unpaid during the administration of then-President Muhammed Buhari.

“We were hopeful when President Tinubu pleaded with governors to ensure that all arrears of salaries would be paid to cushion the effects of economic hardship during his last meeting with them,” he said.
