Omoyele Sowore, the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, has urged for the liberation of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, the #RevolutionNow advocate emphasized the importance of justice and asserted that without it, Nigeria cannot achieve peace and progress. This statement comes in the wake of the Federal Government’s decision to discontinue Sowore’s own case.
“Let me use this opportunity to ask for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. It’s time that reasoning prevails over the issue of Nnamdi Kanu. This whole thing was unnecessary.
“If you’re not going to continue with Buhari’s policies of ruining the economy, destroying the dollars, don’t continue with his repressive policies.
“It’s time to apologize to all the persons that Buhari touched in the last eight years of his administration and prosecute all the officials used in committing atrocities under his government,” he said.
It is noted that Kanu has been held in custody since June 2021, following his extradition to Nigeria by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, in collaboration with the Kenyan government.
In the interim, Sowore asserted that he is owed an apology from the Nigerian government for his arrest and detention in 2019.
Reports indicate that the Nigerian government has decided to drop its case against Sowore on charges of alleged treason.
