IPMAN threatens to shut filling stations in Anambra over multiple taxation

The Enugu Depot of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has warned that it may be compelled to close filling stations in Anambra State if immediate action is not taken to address the issue of multiple and unauthorized taxation imposed on its members in the state.

Mr. Chinedu Anyaso, the re-elected Chairman of the Association, expressed this concern following his re-election for a second term. Anyaso highlighted the persistent problem of illegal and excessive taxation, particularly in Anambra State.

Despite a prior agreement with the state government, Anyaso pointed out that agencies such as ASWAMA, signage, Ocha Brigade, and others continued to demand money, leading to the apprehension and detention of their members and workers in the process.

“All our efforts to call the attention of the Anambra State Government on the issue have proved abortive and not yielded any fruit.

“Some of the IPMAN members having businesses in Anambra State were taken to court and jailed or given the option of fines due to their refusal to comply with illegal and over taxation.

“Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, members of IPMAN have continued to find it difficult to survive the harsh business environment confronting all business concerns in the country,” he said.
