Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced on Friday that his administration would extend the payment of wage awards to workers and pensioners in the state by an additional six months. He made this announcement during a speech at the commissioning of the dualised 12km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe- Elebu Apata Road.
Earlier in October, the governor had approved wage awards of N25,000 and N15,000 for workers and pensioners, respectively, with the initial six-month duration set to end in March 2024.
Makinde emphasized that he has consistently ensured timely payment of workers’ salaries and pensions to retirees, never exceeding the 25th of any month. He also mentioned the annual payment of a 13th-month salary since assuming office.
Additionally, Makinde addressed claims suggesting that state governors affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were not meeting their obligations of paying salaries and pensions to workers in their respective states.
