Super Eagles Ranks 28th in FIFA ranking, 3rd in Africa

In the latest FIFA men’s ranking released on Thursday, the Super Eagles have made significant strides, climbing 14 places. The Nigerian national team has ascended from the 42nd spot to the 28th position globally. Additionally, they have elevated from sixth to third place within Africa.

This notable advancement marks the team’s highest position on the global list since May 2013. The impressive leap can be attributed to the Eagles’ commendable performance at the recently concluded African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they secured the silver medal after finishing as runners-up.

Despite their unbeaten streak throughout the competition, the Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in the final. Consequently, Cote d’Ivoire also experienced a rise in the rankings, moving from 49th to 39th place worldwide.

Meanwhile, Morocco and Senegal maintained their positions as the leading African teams. Argentina retained the top spot globally, followed by France and Brazil in second and third place, respectively.

The FIFA Men’s World Ranking serves as a rating system by the football’s world governing body for men’s national teams. It evaluates teams based on their performance in FIFA-recognized full international matches, with points awarded accordingly.

The next FIFA world ranking is scheduled for release on April 4, 2024.
