Chippa United chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, has announced that the club will be throwing its support behind Nigeria rather than South Africa in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.
Despite the widespread support for the national team, Bafana Bafana, as they aim to reach an AFCON final for the first time since 1996, Mpengesi has opted to back the Super Eagles. This decision is rooted in supporting the club’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, and the entire Nigerian squad.
“With Stanley’s rising profile and the international attention it brings Chippa United FC, the benefits have been nothing but positive.
“Therefore, I and Chippa United FC stand behind our player Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles tomorrow (Wednesday) against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best,” Mpengesi said in a statement.
