Sewage truck caught discharging faeces in drainage in Lagos

In a proactive move to address environmental concerns, the Lagos state government seized a sewage evacuation truck on Friday, February 2, for illicitly discharging fecal matter into the drainage system at Amuwo Odofin Housing Estate, Mile 2.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunboh Wahab, announced the impoundment and subsequent arrest of the truck driver through his official handle. The driver has been arraigned and remanded by the magistrate, with sentencing scheduled for Tuesday, February 6.

Furthermore, Wahab highlighted that the truck owner would face criminal prosecution in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management Protection Law 2017 on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

“A sewage evacuation truck was impounded on Friday, and the driver arrested by the LSWMO operatives for discharging fecal matter in the drainage and polluting the environment in Amuwo Odofin Housing Estate, Mile 2.

The driver has been arraigned and remanded by the magistrate until Tuesday for sentencing. The truck owner will also face criminal prosecution in line with the Lagos State Environmental Management Protection Law 2017 on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The state government reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy for all environmental nuisances across the state.”
