The Bauchi Police Command has instituted movement restrictions for the rerun election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, in three local government areas of the state. According to reports, the movement restrictions will be enforced from midnight on Friday until 6:00 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
In addition to the movement restrictions, the Command has prohibited Very Important Persons (VIPs) and politicians from bringing their security details to polling units on election day.
Only individuals involved in essential services, including Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff, ambulance crews, firefighters, and authorized Election Observers with valid identification, will be allowed at the election venue.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, conveyed this information in a statement released to journalists in Bauchi on Friday through the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil.
The statement also emphasized the continued enforcement of regulations against the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, covered plate numbers, and tinted glasses, with appropriate sanctions for violators.
“In view of this, the Command has placed the following restriction Orders: Restriction of persons and vehicular movement across Bauchi Metropolitan, Katagum, and Ningi LGA of the State.
“On this note, operatives attached to the Command in conjunction with other sister security agencies will be deployed to ensure full enforcement,” he stated.
The CP added that state-established and owned security outfits/organizations, quasi-security units, private guards, and other security outfits were also barred from participating in election security management.
He warned that anyone found deliberately “directly or indirectly” flouting this order(s) will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
