Edo Speaker suspends member for inciting disunity

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, on Monday, suspended Sunny Ojiezele, the representative for Esan South-East, for three months due to allegations of inciting disunity among members.

During the plenary session, Agbebaku made the announcement and instructed the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the two-time lawmaker out of the assembly chambers.

Notably, Ojiezele is the first legislator to face suspension in the eighth assembly.

In other legislative actions, the house granted approval for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s request to access a N2.2 billion Agricultural palliative loan, with a repayment plan of N94.3 million over 24 months.

Additionally, the house approved a N9.1 billion loan from First Bank as the contractor’s finance and bank guarantee for the state government’s construction of housing units in Asokoro, Abuja.

The funds will also be utilized for procuring 50 CNG buses for the Edo City Transport Services (ECTS) and undertaking infrastructure development such as road construction and drainage in the new Coral City in Benin, among other projects.
