The Nigeria National League (NNL) has expressed profound sadness at the abrupt passing of coach Uche Okagbue.
Until his untimely demise, Okagbue served as the head coach of Solution FC of Awka, a team in the NNL.
The esteemed coach, fondly referred to as “the late gaffer,” passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024. His remains have been laid to rest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital in Awka.
Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, the Chief Operating Officer of the NNL, conveyed the league body’s shock over the news of the former Junior International’s death. This news was particularly surprising, considering the commendable work Okagbue was carrying out with his team.
Okagbue’s coaching experience included stints with Sporting Lagos, FRSC of Abuja, and the now-defunct Ifeanyi Uba football club. He notably guided Ifeanyi Ubah to the Nigeria Premier Football League Super Six playoff in 2022. Additionally, Okagbue had a history of playing for the Golden Eaglets in the past.
