Tinubu meet Ganduje, Kano APC leaders

President Bola Tinubu engaged in private discussions with a delegation representing the leadership of the Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Thursday. The delegation, led by APC Chairman and former Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, included Nasir Gawuna, the party’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election.

This meeting occurred just a week after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the duly elected governor of the state, overturning Gawuna’s victory. Despite conceding defeat initially, Gawuna contested the results in court, leading to the nullification of Yusuf’s election by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on November 17, 2023.

The Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Kano governorship election petition tribunal, declaring Gawuna the winner of the election. However, on January 12, 2024, the Supreme Court restored Yusuf as the governor of Kano State, overturning the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

The agenda of Thursday’s meeting was not disclosed to the public, and no statements were made by those in attendance to State House correspondents. The NNPP, which played a role in the emergence of Yusuf as governor, filed its notice of appeal before the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
