Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano praised President Bola Tinubu for his adept defense of Nigeria’s democracy in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the state’s gubernatorial election. Despite immense public pressure, the president stood firm and preserved the people’s mandate, facing a massive crowd in Kano.
The incumbent governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate highlighted that the judiciary’s standing was further elevated by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn his earlier dismissal by the tribunal and Court of Appeal. He emphasized the attempts of certain individuals to seize the hard-won mandate of the Kano people.
Governor Yusuf expressed his appreciation for the Justices of the Supreme Court (JSCs) for upholding justice in their ruling, thereby averting potential “unforeseen circumstances” for the state.
“We thank the justices for the judgment because if not for the fair judgment they delivered, we would not have known what would have happened. The verdict has redeemed their image”, said Yusuf.
“The persons were hell-bent on snatching or stealing our mandate and the reason was because they felt the President, his Vice and others were from APC. Unfortunately, the President refused to interfere.”
He declared Kano people have conveyed their gratitude to the president for preserving democracy in the state through this gesture.
He said: “I am overwhelmed by the mammoth crowd, who voluntarily trooped out en masse to receive us and journeyed for eight hours on the road to get to this venue.
“We will not let you down. Our doors are open. We will deliver on the dividends of democracy in the areas of education, health, empowerment among others.”
