Rivers Assembly to re-screen, reconfirm 9 ex-commissioners

The Rivers State House of Assembly plans to conduct a re-screening and re-confirmation process for nine former Commissioners who tendered their resignations from the state executive council last Wednesday. This information was disclosed in a statement released by Mr. Emeka Amadi, the Clerk of the House, on Monday in Port Harcourt.

The commissioners slated for re-screening are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN); Commissioner for Works, Dr. Des George-Kelly; Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke; Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mrs. Inime Aguma; Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu. Additionally, Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedu Mmom; Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Gift Worlu; Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Jacobson Nbina; and Commissioner for Environment, Austin Ben-Chioma.

The directive stipulates that the commissioners must submit 40 sets of their Curriculum Vitae, along with photocopies and original copies of their credentials, to the State House of Assembly at the Legislative Quarters, the designated venue for the screening.

It is worth noting that the resignations occurred on December 16, 2023, amid a political crisis between the Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The reinstatement of these former commissioners is part of the terms outlined in the peace agreement brokered by President Tinubu with Governor Fubara.
