Efforts by Lagos State to sustain the peaceful ambiance enjoyed in recent years across the state on Tuesday received a boost of N1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion) Naira when Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received a cheque from philanthropist and billionaire investor, Mr. Femi Otedola.
During the presentation ceremony at Lagos House, Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu, said the donation, which was meant to support the security architecture of the economic and commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, would improve upon the peaceful atmosphere and conducive environment for businesses and the people at large.
While expressing appreciation to Otedola, who was represented by his daughter, Ms Tolani Otedola, for the donation noted that it will motivate security personnel and avail them of more security equipment, gadgets and vehicles.
He then appealed to other well-meaning Lagosians to emulate the Executive Chairman of Geregu Power PLC, in coming to the aid of the government with similar interventions. This he said would help Lagos become a safer place for businesses to flourish as the commercial nerve centre of the country.
Otedola, speaking through his daughter, Ms Tolani Otedola, assured the Lagos State government of more support, calling for transparency and accountability for every penny donated to make an impact on residents.
He also acknowledged and lauded security personnel for their contribution to the peaceful environment in Lagos, especially during the festive periods for adequate protection of lives and property, he encouraged residents to cooperate with the government for a more secure Lagos.
The one billion naira is the largest individual donation to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
