Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan loses elder sister

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, the elder sister of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away. She died at the age of 70 after a brief illness on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Jonathan’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed her demise in a statement. The statement described the late Obebhatein, popularly known as Amissi, as a retired teacher, businesswoman, a loving mother, and grandmother who led a life dedicated to serving God and humanity.

She was acknowledged as a devout Christian, a woman of virtue, and a role model within and beyond her community. The statement announced that the burial is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, with further details about the funeral rites to be provided by the family.

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
