The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation’s affairs are now under the supervision of the Permanent Secretary, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, subsequent to the suspension of Minister Betta Edu.
This action follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive, suspending Edu on Monday due to alleged involvement in a N585 million fraud, specifically accused of channeling public funds into private accounts.
Enitan assumed control of the Ministry after receiving a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday night.
In response to this development, Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, instructed the suspended minister to conduct a handover to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
“She is further directed by the President to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they conduct their investigation.
“Furthermore, the President has tasked a panel that is headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to, among other functions, conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes.
“With a view to conclusively reforming the relevant institutions and programmes in a determined bid to eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative,” Ngelale had said in a statement.
