The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to launch the first-ever online portal for passport applications in Abuja today (Monday).
This groundbreaking initiative was revealed during a demonstration session of the online portal on Friday, attended by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju.
The online passport application platform caters to both international and Nigerian applicants, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing and streamlining the passport application process.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo had previously announced in December that the Federal Government was diligently working towards the full automation of the passport application system in the country. He emphasized that the automated system was “99 per cent done” and would involve the seamless upload of passport photos and supporting documents.
Under the new system, Nigerian applicants opting for 32-page passports with a five-year validity will be required to pay N25,000, while those seeking 64-page passports with a 10-year validity will be charged N70,000.
For foreign applicants, the fee structure is set at $130 for passports with a five-year validity period and 32 pages, and $230 for passports with a 10-year validity period and 64 pages. Applications can be submitted online at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
