River Plate’s Claudio Echeverri has already undergone a medical ahead of signing for Manchester City, according to his agent.
The Argentine midfielder is expected to sign a six-year deal with City but stay at River on loan until December. The 18-year-old is currently in Orlando, Florida, in preseason training with River Plate.
“The operation is 99% completed, small details are missing,” Echeverri’s agent Enzo Montepaeone said. “The medical examination has already been done. Only when River makes it official, will the financial details come out. For now it is confidential.
“Claudio wanted to play the Copa Libertadores with River. If City didn’t accept that, the deal would not be done. Other clubs wanted to pay and take him. The reality is that the player expressly asked to stay and play at River. It is the first time in history that the seven City scouts agreed that the operation had to be done. He still has not spoken with [City manager Pep] Guardiola, nor with [City striker and Argentina international] Julian Alvarez.”
Montepaeone denied rumours that Echeverri will join City Group club Girona before arriving to City in 2025.
“I don’t know where that came from about Girona, but I think that the he is going to be at City once he leaves River,” he said. “For me, Claudio has no ceiling, we’ll see how far he can grow.”
